For over 20 years, husband-and-wife duo Paul and Irene have been the friendly faces behind Gourmet to Go, serving up flaky pies, easy take-home meals, and Irene’s famous jams and marmalades.
With a love of good food and a passion for quality, they’ve continued to source new products that cater to all tastes and dietary needs alongside their products you know and love — from a classic pie to a family lasagna and a variety of cultures.
A must try are Irene’s award-winning jams and marmalades, handmade in small batches using fruit grown in their own backyard orchard. Plums, apricots, blackberries, cumquats, and even Seville oranges — all hand-cut and quickly cooked to seal in the flavour. Being small batch means more flavour in the jar,
Irene says. It really makes a difference to the quality of the end product.
First time visiting? Don’t leave without trying the Barossa Pasty — a traditional meat and veggie classic from Apex Bakery in Tanunda that’s been a staple at the stall for 29 years (one of their best-sellers, for good reason!).
When they’re not serving up something delicious for lunch, Paul and Irene enjoy some of their Market favourites, with lunch from Sunmi, pizza from Atlas, or treating themselves to souvlaki lamb ribs from O’Connell Meats’ hot rack on a Friday night.
What do they love most about the Market, after all these years? It’s the buzz, the smells, the chatter,
they say. But mostly, it’s the regulars, many of whom have become like family.
